This Sunday
Happy 2009 to everyone! Its our prayer that we follow Him closely this year, that Jesus is the center of all things, and that we keep in step with the Spirit. As he does every year, Pastor John will look again at the heart of our church - our vision and our biblical goal. We will rejoice in what God has done and anticipate with great faith the things He has yet to do in us!

Wednesday Night
There are no Wednesday night activities this week. Happy New Year to you and your family from the staff of First Baptist Irving. Next week, Pastor John will continue the teaching series, "Jesus, Part II." We will continue to be studying the events, timeline, and the significance of when the feet of Jesus touch planet Earth for the second time. Wednesday nights are a wonderful time of fellowship, teaching, worship, and prayer. The Fellowship Meal begins at 5:00 p.m. and Prayer Gathering begins at 6:15 p.m.

First Irving Worship Services on Video
Do you know an elderly person, shut-in or someone who is ill, who would like a VHS or DVD copy of a worship service of First Irving? Our Homebound Ministry would be happy to stop by and bring a copy of a worship service to anyone living in Irving. Please contact Melissa Murrell in the church office. We will need the name and address of the person who will be receiving the video.

Have you moved recently, changed your phone number or e-mail address? Please let us know of those changes! You can fill out the "Guest Information" section of the First Family or email Melissa Murrell.

Preschool Volunteers Needed
Preschool is in need of teachers to serve once or twice a month in Pre-k Church. If you would like to serve in this area, contact Donna Mosty or call her at 972-986-5996.

Student Ministry Help Needed
Each Sunday morning breakfast is served to the students in the Student Ministry. We are looking for volunteers that would be willing to provide breakfast for these students on a one-time or rotation basis. If you would like to help with this, please contact Melissa Murrell.

Honduras 2009
First Irving is sending a mission team of 35 to Honduras, one of our Go Global Impact Points, March 7 - 13, 2009. We will be partnering with local churches in VBS, medical clinics, house-to-house evangelism, prayer walking, and revival services. This will be First Irving's 7th trip to Honduras, and we are excited about our long-term relationship with the churches in Honduras. If you need more info or want to turn in an application, you can go by the Hub or contact Jason Hatch.

Israel Trip 2009
There are 6 open spaces for a trip to Israel in May 2009 led by Pastor John and his wife Jennifer. If you are interested in going on this trip of a lifetime, please email Jennifer.

Sudan Trip 2009
There are still a few openings on First Irving's trip to The Sudan in late summer 2009. If you are interested in this trip, please email the Church Office or Vernon Burger. This mission trip focus is ministering to widows and building relationships with orphans.

Fellowship Meal & Prayer Gathering
We invite you to our Fellowship Meal and Prayer Gathering beginning back on January 7th. Join us then for our weekly Fellowship Meal and Prayer Gathering. The Fellowship meal is served from 5:00 p.m. - 6:15 p.m. Meals are $4.50 for adults, $3.50 for students, and $2.50 for K-5th Grade. Ages 4 and younger eat free. Prayer Gathering begins at 6:15 p.m, and includes a time of worship, teaching, and prayer as a church family. The Fellowship Meal and Prayer Gathering are held each week in the fellowship hall.

A Name Change - ABF
The familiar name of "Sunday School" is changing for all of our adult classes. The new name will be Adult Bible Fellowship or ABF. This allows us to communicate with others the purpose of our classes, as well as begin new classes on days outside of Sunday.

FaithWorks Commitment
Faith works. It always has. FaithWorks is the name of First Baptist Irving's capital campaign begun in the spring of 2008. We have already seen an amazing amount of commitment from those who made pledges. Our prayer as the body of believers is that as we commit to, and give over the next several years, that the Lord would continue to unite our hearts, keeping us focused on the biblical goal of the Kingdom, and to complete the vision. Now is the time when we can join in the unparalleled opportunity to reach more for Christ in our community. If you would like more information or would like to contribute to the FaithWorks capital campaign, feel free to contact the church office.

Adult Choir
Our 9:30 Adult Choir is looking for voices as we begin our preparation for 2008. We rehearse Wednesdays at 7:00 PM in the choir room. No auditions are required, just the desire to help lead worship through music.

TRADITIONAL SERVICE with Choir: 9:30 a.m.
This exciting service uses choir, great hymns of the faith, and special messages through song. Will James in in leadership of worship through song each week.

CONTEMPORARY SERVICE with Band: 11:00 a.m.
This service uses a band to lead in ancient and modern songs of worship. Jared Billups is in leadership of worship through song each week.

WEDNESDAYS
Join us on Wednesday for FELLOWSHIP MEAL and PRAYER GATHERING all beginning at 5:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall.
